OakWood Renovation Experts has sent a note to its email list reminding homeowners to clean ice and snow from their roofs.

“Whether you are an OakWood client or not, it is important to be proactive,” the note said. “Built-up snow and ice will cause ice-damming which leads to water creeping backwards up shingles and roofing, resulting in water infiltration through the building envelope. Especially vulnerable areas are skylights, roof valleys, plumbing stacks and roof vents. A few mild days with rain could cause more issues. It’s also a good idea to clean basement window wells.

“We get a lot of requests from homeowners to repair damaged roofs and ceilings. We would rather see you spend your hard earned money on a home renovation instead of repairing a roof and ceiling. Remember if you are climbing on your roof be safe or hire a professional.”
